A passenger reported the aircraft encountered 45 minutes of continuous moderate turbulence, when the inflight entertainment system went offline. The crew announced an electrical failure, they were diverting to Santiago de Chile. Following landing the passengers were kept on board for about an hour, then the crew announced that the aircraft could not continue. The passengers disembarked and were taken to hotels.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 16.5 hours, then was able to continue the flight as UA-818A and is estimated to reach Houston with a delay of 19.5 hours.
