An AirAsia Airbus A320-200, registration 9M-AFC performing flight AK-12 (dep Dec 20th) from Chennai (India) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), landed on Kuala Lumpur's runway 33 but burst both left hand main tyres. The aircraft rolled out leaving grooves in the runway, came to a stop on the runway and was disabled.

The runway was closed for about 8 hours as result of the occurrence.

On Jan 25th 2017 Malaysia's Accident Investigation Board reported the occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by the AIB.
