An American Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration N278AY performing flight AA-730 from Charlotte,NC (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 229 people on board, was climbing out of Charlotte's runway 36R when the crew stopped the climb at about 6000 feet declaring emergency and reporting very bad vibrations over the limits of the #1 engine (PW4168, left hand), everything was running they just needed to run the checklists, they needed the longest runway available and a long approach to run the checklists. Being offered to dump fuel the crew responded "We can't do that". The aircraft landed overweight but safely back on runway 36C about 25 minutes after departure.

A replacement A330-300 registration N274AY reached London with a delay of 7 hours.

The FAA reported the aircraft suffered engine vibrations, returned to Charlotte and landed without incident. The damage to the engine is unknown.
