An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N551UW performing flight AA-1693 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Las Vegas,NV (USA) with 178 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL280 about 130nm westnorthwest of Albuquerque when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (V2533) down and diverted the aircraft to Albuquerque for a safe landing on runway 26 about 25 minutes later.

The airline reported the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (V2533) down due to the failure of the engine.

A passenger reported the crew announced an engine fire indication.

A replacement A321-200 registration N194UW reached Las Vegas with a delay of 7:45 hours.
