An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N177AN performing flight AA-1089 from Bridgetown (Barbados) to Miami,FL (USA) with 108 people on board, was on final approach to Miami's runway 09 when the crew went around from about 1500 feet reporting a flaps symmetry problem. The aircraft climbed to 4000 feet and entered a hold to work the related checklists. The crew subsequently requested emergency services on stand by for the pending high speed landing. The aircraft landed safely on Miami's runway 09 at a higher than normal speed about 25 minutes after aborting the first approach.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Miami 24 hours after landing.
