An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration ET-ATL performing flight ET-702 from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was enroute at FL400 about 210nm south of Athens (Greece) when the crew received a multitude of system messages including the failure of left and right hand bus power control units (BPCU), the failure of the left hand engine (Trent 1000) electronic control (EEC) channel B, right hand generator control unit and other associated malfunctions. The crew decided to divert to Athens reporting problems with the left hand engine and landed safely on Athens' runway 21R about 45 minutes after leaving FL400.

A replacement Boeing 787-800 registration ET-ASI was dispatched to Athens, resumed the flight and reached Rome with a delay of 13.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Athens about 40 hours after landing.
