A number of passengers could be rebooked onto other flights to Pristina, the others were taken to hotels and were returned to Vienna the following day.
Passengers reported they heard a loud bang while enroute over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The occurrence aircraft was still on the ground in Belgrade about 19 hours after landing.
On Feb 3rd 2017 the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) reported the aircraft began shaking while in cruise flight causing the autopilot to disconnect. Cockpit indications showed the left hand engine was vibrating, passengers in the cabin reported seeing sparks and flames. A short time later the engine failed, the flight crew shut the engine down and diverted to Belgrade. A first examination showed a cracked compressor blade.
