Austrian F100 near Belgrade on Nov 6th 2016, engine vibrations, engine shut down in flight

An Austrian Airlines Fokker 100, registration OE-LVE performing flight OS-769 from Vienna (Austria) to Pristina (Kosovo) with 79 passengers, was enroute at FL350 about 90nm west of Belgrade (Serbia) when the crew decided to divert to Belgrade due to vibrations of one of the engines (Tay 650). The aircraft landed safely on Belgrade's runway 12 about 25 minutes later.

The airline reported the crew decided to divert to the next available airport Belgrade to have the engine inspected after the engine developed vibrations. Six passengers had problems with their Visas to Serbia and had to stay in transit at Belgrade Airport. A number of passengers could be rebooked onto other flights to Pristina, the others were taken to hotels and were returned to Vienna the following day.

Passengers reported they heard a loud bang while enroute over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The occurrence aircraft was still on the ground in Belgrade about 19 hours after landing.

On Feb 3rd 2017 the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) reported the aircraft began shaking while in cruise flight causing the autopilot to disconnect. Cockpit indications showed the left hand engine was vibrating, passengers in the cabin reported seeing sparks and flames. A short time later the engine failed, the flight crew shut the engine down and diverted to Belgrade. A first examination showed a cracked compressor blade. Serbia's Center for Investigation of Accidents in Transport (CIAT) rated the occurrence an incident and opened an investigation, the DSB is assisting the investigation.
