An Jazz Canadair CRJ-705, registration C-GOJZ performing flight QK-8631 from Halifax,NS to Ottawa,ON (Canada), was climbing through FL300 when the right hand engine (CF34) emitted a loud bang and lost power. The crew actioned the relevant checklist, shut the engine down and returned to Halifax for a safe landing about 30 minutes later.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found the turbine had failed with damage contained within the engine. The engine was replaced.
