A Lufthansa Boeing 747-400, registration D-ABVS performing flight LH-464 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Orlando,FL (USA) with 345 passengers and 18 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 370nm south of Gander,NL (Canada) when the crew donned their oxygen masks and requested to divert to Gander reporting smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft turned north, descended to FL100 for the diversion and landed safely on Gander's runway 03 about an hour after turning north.

The airline reported the crew decided to divert to Newfoundland due to smoke in the cockpit.

A replacement Boeing 747-400 registration D-ABVT was dispatched to Gander as flight LH-9930, departed Gander as flight LH-464 about 22 hours after D-ABVS landed in Gander and is estimated to reach Orlando with a total delay of 25 hours.

First gossip suggests one of the cockpit seat actuators was the source of the smoke.
