An American Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration N736AT performing flight AA-73 (dep Oct 10th) from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Sydney,NS (Australia), was enroute at FL300 over the Pacific Ocean about 850nm southwest of Los Angeles when the crew decided to turn around and return to Los Angeles reporting a possible fuel leak. The aircraft maintained FL300 for the return and landed safely on Los Angeles's runway 25L about 2 hours after turning around. The aircraft taxied to the apron.

A passenger reported the captain announced about 2 hours into the flight that they didn't have enough fuel to make it to Sydney, so they were returning to Los Angeles. The aircraft taxied to the apron, but shut the engines down and was towed into the gate.

The flight was cancelled.
