Vanuatu's Civil Aviation Authority CAAV confirmed "RV10" was involved into the serious incident. An investigation has been opened.
The airline reported that the pilot noticed an irregularity on the elevator control while on short final about 20-30 seconds prior to touchdown. A subsequent examination of the aircraft revealed the component failure. The fractured elevator control cable, that had been manufactured in New Zealand, was about 6 months old. All aircraft fleetwide were immediately inspected but no further fault was found.
