A Qantas Boeing 737-800, registration VH-VXO performing flight QF-825 from Darwin,NT to Brisbane,QL (Australia) with 172 people on board, was enroute at FL350 about 240nm southeast of Darwin when the crew needed to initiate an emergency descent due to the loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft descended to 8000 feet and returned to Darwin for a safe landing about 105 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the forward section of the cabin became hot, the captain announced one of the air conditioning systems had failed and the other one was struggeling. Then the aircraft descended rapidly, the captain announced the problem could not be solved in flight, they had lost cabin pressure and they were returning to Darwin.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration VH-VXG positioned to Darwin, resumed the flight and reached Brisbane with a delay of 9:20 hours.
