A United Boeing 767-300, registration N662UA performing flight UA-865 from Hamburg (Germany) to Newark,NJ (USA) with 183 people on board, was enroute at FL350 over the Labrador Sea about 500nm northnortheast of Goose Bay,NL (Canada) when the right hand engine's (PW4060) tripped offline, the crew was unable to reset the generator. The crew descended the aircraft to FL290 in order to start the APU but received an APU fault indication requiring the shut down of the APU. The crew declared emergency and diverted to Goose Bay for a safe landing about 80 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N677UA was dispatched to Goose Bay, continued the flight and reached Newark with a delay of 6:40 hours.

The Canadian TSB reported determined the #2 generator was faulty and replaced the generator. The APU was leaking oil which could not be repaired in Goose Bay. The APU defect was deferred and the aircraft returned to service under minimum equipment list requirements.
