A KLM Boeing 737-800, registration PH-BXF performing flight KL-1705 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Madrid,SP (Spain), was enroute at FL310 about 30nm southsoutheast of Lille (France) when the crew decided to return to Amsterdam reporting a stuck altimeter and advising ATC that this had no operational consequences, no assistance was needed and a normal landing would occur. The aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 18R about 55 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration PH-BXV reached Madrid with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 4 hours after landing.
