A Shuttle America Embraer ERJ-170 on behalf of United, registration N643RW performing flight UA-3448 from West Palm Beach,FL to Newark,NJ (USA) with 72 people on board, was enroute at FL350 near Raleigh/Durham,NC (USA) when the aircraft encountered unexpected turbulence causing a flight attendant in the aft galley, who was just stowing a beverage cart, to bump her hand. The flight attendant thought to have sustained no injury and continued duties. The aircraft continued to Newark for a safe landing.

On Aug 25th 2016 the NTSB released their brief final report reporting the hand of the flight attendant was swollen and painful the next day, the hospital diagnosed a fractured wrist. The probable cause of the accident was:

an encounter with turbulence resulting in a serious injury to a flight attendant.
