An Easyjet Airbus A320-200, registration G-EZOE performing flight U2-7179 from Liverpool,EN (UK) to Malaga,SP (Spain), departed Liverpool's runway 27, during the initial climb the left hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird however resulting in a huge bang from the engine and a brief loss of engine power. The engine however fully recovered resulting in all instruments showing normal values. The crew continued the climb to cruise level FL350 and was enroute about 40nm northeast of Brest (France) about 50 minutes into the flight when the crew decided to turn around and divert to London Gatwick for a safe landing on runway 26L about 40 minutes after turning around.

A replacement A320-200 registration G-EZTD reached Malaga with a delay of 4:45 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in London for 24 hours before resuming service.
