A Delta Airlines Boeing 717-200, registration N936AT performing flight DL-2135 from Tampa,FL to New York La Guardia,NY (USA), was enroute at FL330 about 30nm northeast of Raleigh/Durham,NC (USA) when the crew reported an engine (BR715) fire indication and decided to divert to Raleigh/Durham. During the descent the crew clarified, they did have a left engine fire indication "backed up with an electrical problem", which appeared to be a generator problem. They were working the checklists, right now they had no fire indication, no smoke or other problem, the left engine was shut down. They were still working their checklists and needed a couple more minutes before commencing the approach. The aircraft was assigned runway 23L, the crew requested runway 23R and was assigned runway 23R. The aircraft landed safely on Raleigh/Durham's runway 23R about 35 minutes after leaving FL330.

The FAA reported the aircraft suffered an engine problem.

The airline reported the aircraft diverted to Raleigh/Durham due to an indication of a possible problem with one of the engines. Another aircraft continued the flight to New York.

A replacement Boeing 717-200 registration N991AT reached New York with a delay of 4.5 hours.
