An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N938AN performing flight AA-2583 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Detroit,MI (USA) with 167 people on board, was enroute at FL370 about 70nm southwest of Dayton,OH (USA), when the crew decided to divert to Dayton reporting an odour in the cockpit. The aircraft landed safely on Dayton's runway 24R about 25 minutes later.

The airline reported an odour in the cockpit prompted the crew to divert to Dayton. A number of passengers organised their own onward journey to Detroit, the others were taken to hotels.
