An American Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration N815AA performing flight AA-87 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), was climbing out of London's runway 09R when the crew stopped the climb at about FL240 after receiving a fault message for the aft outflow valve. The aircraft dumped fuel and returned to Heathrow for a safe landing on runway 09L about 40 minutes after departure.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 3 hours, then departed again and is estimated to reach Chicago with a delay of 2.5 hours.

Passengers reported hearing loud noises in the cabin.

Several media in the UK as well as aviation services initially reported an engine fire indication/engine blaze before toning down their reports.

The airline reported the aircraft returned as a precaution over a mechanical issue, that had nothing to do with an engine.
