A Darwin Airlines Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A on behalf of Alitalia, registration HB-ACC performing flight AZ-1203 from Naples to Palermo (Italy), dropped the left nose wheel on departure from Naples. Unaware of the lost nosewheel the crew continued the flight to Palermo for a safe landing.

Italy's ANSV rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.

On Jun 2nd 2016 the French BEA reported that there was some minor vibration felt by the crew during the takeoff roll and was deemed not important. After landing, while taxiing to the apron, nose wheel steering felt harder than usual. After reaching the stand the marshaller advised of the missing nose wheel. The nose wheel was recovered from the grass aside of the runway in Naples, some metallic items obviously belonging to the nose wheel retaining system were found on the departure runway in Naples.
