A Montenegro Airlines Embraer ERJ-195, registration 4O-AOA performing flight YM-311 from Dusseldorf (Germany) to Podgorica (Montenegro), was climbing out of Dusseldorf's runway 23L when the crew stopped the climb at about 8500 feet reporting a cracked windshield and entered a hold at 4000 and 5000 feet to burn off fuel with landing gear extended before returning to Dusseldorf for a safe landing on runway 23L about 65 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the aircraft was climbing through about 5000 feet (1500 meters) when a bird impacted the windshield causing the cracked windshield. The windshield needed to be replaced.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground until Apr 19th before it was able to depart for the return flight YM-311A.
