A Qantas Airbus A380-800, registration VH-OQJ performing flight QF-9 (dep 4th) from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with 410 passengers, was enroute at FL360 over western Australia about 590nm northeast of Perth,WA (Australia) about 2:40 hours into the flight when the crew decided to divert to Sydney,NS (Australia) due to engine (Trent 972) vibrations. On approach to Sydney the crew requested full length runway 34L and told tower/emergengy services they were having an engine issue. The aircraft landed safely in Sydney about 4 hours after turning around.

A replacement Airbus A380-800 registration VH-OQL departed Sydney about 2.5 hours after landing and is estimated to reach Dubai with a delay of 10 hours.

The airline reported a minor maintenance issue confirming engine vibrations.
