An Air Peace Boeing 737-500, flight 4P-7191 from Port Harcourt to Lagos (Nigeria), was climbing out of Port Harcourt at about 12:00L (11:00Z) when the crew received a smoke detector indication and decided to return to Port Harcourt. The aircraft landed safely and vacated the runway, while taxiing towards the terminal tower informed the crew of seeing smoke from the landing gear which prompted the crew to stop the aircraft on the taxiway and initiate an evacuation via slides. There were no injuries.

The airline stated that the smoke indication was false. After landing the crew was informed by tower about smoke from the landing gear. In following safety procedures the crew therefore initiated the emergency evacuation. The smoke alarm was identified false however.
