A Cubana Ilyushin IL-96, registration CU-T1717 performing flight CU-361 from Buenos Aires,BA (Argentina) to Cayo Coco (Cuba) with 120 people on board, was enroute at FL300 about 50nm north of Salta,SA (Argentina) when the crew reported the failure of engine #3 (PS-90, inboard right hand), drifted the aircraft down to FL280, dumped fuel and returned to Buenos Aires for a safe landing about 3:45 hours after departure.

The aircraft remained on the ground until March 3rd, then positioned as flight CU-1717 to Cuba via Lima (Peru), Panama City (Panama) never climbing above FL280. The aircraft was able to resume service on March 7th.
