A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DHR performing flight FR-5464 from Madrid,SP (Spain) to Brussels Charleroi (Belgium), was on approach to Charleroi Airport (runway 2,550 meters/8,370 feet) when the crew stopped the descent at 5000 feet reporting a flaps asymmetry while extending the flaps to 1 degree. The crew subsequently decided to divert to Brussels National Airport due to longer runways available (length runway 07L/25R 3,640 meters/11,940 feet, length runway 01/19 2,990 meters/9,800 feet). The aircraft landed safely on National Airport's runway 01 at a higher than normal speed (touchdown at about 170 knots over ground).

The passengers were taken to Charleroi by bus.

The return flight was cancelled.
