An American Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N604AW performing flight AA-1826 from Phoenix,AZ to Las Vegas,NV (USA), was on final approach to Las Vegas' runway 25L in gusting winds. Just when the main gear touched down, a loud bang was heard. The aircraft rolled out without further incident, tower instructed to turn off the runway "if able", the crew maintained routine communication and taxied the aircraft to the gate.

Ground observer Markus Mainka, taking photos of aircraft landing on runway 25L, reported that just when the aircraft touched down a loud bang was heard, the aircraft bounced, touched down a second time - without further bang -, rolled out and taxied to the gate. Only after reviewing the photos taken during the short final and landing Markus Mainka recognized that the left hand engine (V2527) had emitted streaks of flame and the bang just at touch down.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 90 minutes, then departed for the return flight AA-779 to Phoenix.
