An Atlas Air Boeing 747-800, registration N859GT performing freight flight 5Y-33 from Miami,FL (USA) to Buenos Aires,BA (Argentina) with 6 crew, departed Miami's runway 27 and was enroute at FL330 about 210nm southeast of Miami when the crew decided to return to Miami after receiving information about tyre debris found on the departure runway was traced to their aircraft. The aircraft landed safely on Miami's runway 27 about 2:20 hours after departure and stopped at the end of the runway surrounded by emergency services. The outboard aft right hand body gear tyre was found blown.

The aircraft was towed off the runway about 45 minutes after landing.

A replacement Boeing 747-400 registration N453PA departed Miami with a delay of 9.5 hours.
