A Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-GGMN performing flight QK-8144 from Calgary,AB to Edmonton,AB (Canada) with 29 people on board, was climbing out of Calgary when after gear retraction the crew observed the left main gear door amber light continuously cycling on and off. The crew continued the flight to Edmonton, performed a manual gear extension and landed safely on Edmonton's runway 20.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance checked the left main landing gear proximity sensor gap and re-adjusted it. The readings of the proximity sensor unit were found within tolerances, however, gap and inductance limits were slightly increased. No further faults were found and the aircraft returned to service.

The following day, the aircraft had returned to Calgary, the aircraft was performing flight QK-8551 from Calgary to Victoria,BC (Canada) with 34 people on board. During the initial climb the left main gear door amber lights began to flicker after the gear was retracted. The crew stopped the climb, worked the related checklists and decided to return to Calgary. A manual gear extension was performed and the aircraft landed safely in Calgary.

A replacement aircraft reached Victoria with a delay of 1:45 hours.

The Canadian TSB reported that now maintenance replaced the left main gear door sensor, left and right main gear sensors were rigged, however, this did not remove the fault. Upon further investigation maintenance found "that the left proximity sensor target had migrated from its prop
location". The target was readjusted and secured, the proximity sensor unit now read near and the amber light extinguished. The doors were cycled several times with no further fault found. Maintenance took the decision to also replace the left closed sensor. No further faults were found and the aircraft returned to service without further occurrences.
