Madagascar AT72 at Antananarivo on Dec 26th 2015, hard landing results in nose gear collapse

An Air Madagascar Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration 5R-MJE performing flight MD-822 from Majunga to Antananarivo (Madagascar), landed hard on Antananarivo's runway 11, bounced and touched down hard again causing first the left nose wheel to separate from the nose gear strut followed by the collapse of the nose gear strut. The aircraft came to a stop about 700 meters after the point of first touch down. The passengers rapidly deplaned onto the runway.

On Feb 17th 2016 the French BEA reported based on information received from Madagascar's Accident Investigation Board, that the occurrence was rated an accident, Madagascar's Accident Investigation Board is investigating. The aircraft received substantial damage when the separation of the left nose wheel as result of hard landing and bounce on runway 11 caused the collapse of the aircraft onto its nose.

The occurrence caused disruptions of Air Madagascar's flight schedule in the following days.
