An Air Tahiti Nui Airbus A340-300, registration F-OJTN performing charter flight TN-702 from Beijing (China) to Papeete (Tahiti), was climbing out of Beijing's runway 36R when the crew stopped the climb at 5100 meters (about 16,700 feet) reporting a problem with the flaps and returned to Beijing. The aircraft dumped fuel and landed safely on Beijing's runway 36R about 2.5 hours after departure.

The airline reported flight TN-702 was delayed for technical reasons.

The occurrence prompted the flight schedule of Air Tahiti Nui to be disrupted, a number of flights were cancelled or postponed.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Beijing 97 hours (more than 4 days) after landing back.
