A Thai Smile Airbus A320-200, registration HS-TXN performing flight WE-165 from Chiang Mei to Bangkok (Thailand), was enroute at FL330 about 160nm north of Bangkok when the crew received indication the left hand engine (V2527) had failed. The crew shut the engine down, drifted down and performed a safe landing on Bangkok's runway 01R about 40 minutes later.

The French BEA reported based on notification by Thailand's Accident Investigation Board (AIB), that the occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by Thailand's AIB.
