A Helvetic Embraer ERJ-190 on behalf of Swiss, registration HB-JVL performing flight LX-1710 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Naples (Italy) with 37 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing out of Zurich about 18 minutes into the flight when smoke entered the cockpit prompting the flight crew to don their oxygen masks and return to Zurich for a safe landing.

Switzerland's SUST released their summarizing final report in German stating that there was no smoke in the entire cabin or galley, however, there had been some sweetish smell in the forward part of the cabin. There was no smoke when the galley ovens were opened. An inspection of the aircraft, including removal of the side walls of the cockpit, did not reveal any traces of smoke or evidence of technical defects.

The SUST stated in their last sentence however: "There were remains of burnt food in the galley oven".
