A Swiss Airbus A340-300, registration HB-JMG performing flight LX-178 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Singapore (Singapore), was climbing through FL120 out of Zurich when the crew advised they were restricted in their climb performance, they had lost an engine (CFM56). The crew reduced that engine to idle, continued the climb to FL230, dumped fuel and diverted to Vienna (Austria) for a safe landing on runway 29 about 90 minutes after reporting the restricted climb performance.

According to a listener on Vienna frequencies the crew advised they were not landing overweight, no assistance was needed for landing. They were planning to refuel with passengers on board and requested fire engines on stand by for the refueling, they were planning to continue to Singapore.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 80 minutes, then continued the journey and is estimated to reach Singapore with a delay of 2:40 hours.
