Garg)A China Eastern Airbus A330-300, registration B-6126 performing flight Mu-5008 from Taipei (Taiwan) to Shanghai Pudong (China) with 284 passengers and 15 crew, was in the initial climb out of Taipei's runway 23R when the left hand engine (Trent 772) ingested a black-winged kite causing abnormal engine indications which prompted the crew to level off at 4000 feet and return to Taipei Taoyuan Airport's runway 23L for a safe landing about 15 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported about 30 seconds after becoming airborne the left hand engine began to sound like a steam engine.

The airline confirmed residue on the engine was identified as the remains of a black winged kite, the engine received substantial damage.

A replacement Airbus A340-600 registration B-6050 reached Shanghai with a delay of 8.5 hours.
