An Austrian Airlines Fokker 100, registration OE-LVI performing flight OS-689 from Vienna (Austria) to Minsk (Belarus) with 90 passengers, was enroute at FL330 about 110nm southwest of Minsk, just about to reach the top of descent, when the crew decided to turn around and return to Vienna. The aircraft climbed to FL340 and landed safely back in Vienna about 80 minutes after turning around.

A passenger reported the captain announced about 15-20 minutes prior to estimated landing that they could not land in Minsk due to a computer failure that disabled the automatic landing system and mentioned the IRS (Inertial Reference System). At the time there was dense fog in Minsk.

The airline confirmed the crew noticed a fault in the display of the automatic landing system and due to weather in Minsk as well as maintenance capabilities available decided to return to Vienna.
