A Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N658DL performing flight DL-1831 from Portland,OR to Salt Lake City,UT (USA) with 169 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing out of Portland's runway 10L when the crew stopped the climb at FL210 reporting the right hand engine (PW2037) was overspeeding the aircraft, all indications going into the red line, the engine was uncontrollable, the crew therefore shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Portland for a safe landing on runway 10R about 40 minutes after departure.

A replacement aircraft is estimated to depart with a delay of 12 hours.
