A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration TC-JVG performing flight TK-1970 from Birmingham,EN (UK) to Istanbul (Turkey), departed Birmingham's runway 33 but received a tail strike indication. The crew levelled off at FL070 and decided to divert to London Heathrow, climbing to FL080 enroute. The aircraft landed safely on Heathrow's runway 27L about 70 minutes after departure.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 125 minutes while an examination did not find evidence of the tail skid assembly contacting the runway surface, then departed again, climbed to FL370 enroute and reached Istanbul with a total delay of 3:20 hours.
