A Samair Boeing 737-400, registration OM-SAA performing flight 9C-2029 from Hurghada (Egypt) to Bratislava (Slovakia) with 153 passengers, was enroute at FL320 about 120nm southsoutheast of Athens (Greece) when a male passenger (about 40) suffered symptoms of a severe stroke. A doctor on board provided first aid utilising the onboard medical kit and managed to stabilize the patient while the flight crew diverted the aircraft to Athens for a safe landing on runway 03R about 25 minutes later. Waiting medical services took the patient to a local hospital.

The airline reported the passenger remains in hospital care but appears to be on the way to recovery.
