A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DHN performing flight FR-4376 from Dusseldorf Weeze (Germany) to Tallinn (Estonia) with 183 passengers and 6 crew, departed Niederrhein Airport's runway 27 when a bird impacted the aircraft. The crew continued the climb and were enroute at FL370 about 10nm northeast of Hamburg (Germany) when the crew decided to return to Dusseldorf Weeze as result of the bird strike. The aircraft landed safely back at Dusseldorf about 65 minutes after departure.

The carcass of a buzzard was found at the airport.

A passenger reported a strong burning smell and severe vibrations developed on board, which were identified as engine (CFM56) vibrations.

The airline told The Aviation Herald: "This flight from Dusseldorf Weeze to Tallinn (20 Oct) returned to Dusseldorf Weeze shortly after take-off following a minor bird strike. Customers were switched to a spare aircraft and continued their journey to Tallinn. Ryanair sincerely apologised to all customers affected by this short delay."

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration EI-EGA reached Tallinn with a delay of about 2 hours.

The occurrence aircraft resumed service the following morning after about 12 hours on the ground.
