A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N387DA performing flight DL-304 from Montego Bay (Jamaica) to Atlanta,GA (USA) with 160 people on board, was about to line up Montego Bay's runway 07 for departure when the crew received a cargo fire indication, stopped the aircraft just short of the runway edge. An evacuation via slides commenced. Attending emergency services did not find any evidence of fire, heat or smoke. No injuries occurred.

The airport was closed for about 3 hours as result of the occurrence.

The airline confirmed the crew received a cargo fire indication, activated the fire suppression system and initiated an evacuation of the aircraft. A replacement aircraft was dispatched.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N3736C was dispatched from Atlanta to Montego Bay and reached Atlanta with a delay of 6 hours.

On Oct 15th 2015 The Aviation Herald learned an electronic cigarette in a checked bag was identified as cause of the fire indication.

On Jan 15th 2016 The Aviation Herald received images of the damaged bags and the culprit, see below.
