A Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717-200, registration N485HA performing flight HA-114 from Honolulu,HI to Kahului,HI (USA), was climbing out of Honolulu when one of the engines (BR715) encountered repeated compressor stalls prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The crew stopped the climb at about 8500 feet and returned to Honolulu for a safe landing on runway 04R about 17 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway for an inspection by emergency services, the crew subsequently taxied the aircraft to the apron.

A replacement Boeing 717-200 registration N492HA reached Kahului with a delay of 2:20 hours.
