An Air Canada Boeing 787-800, registration C-GHPU performing flight AC-85 from Tel Aviv (Israel) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was enroute at FL380 about 190nm southeast of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) when the crew received indication of a malfunction of the heating system for a cargo bay, a dog was travelling in that bay. The captain decided to divert to Frankfurt/Main where the aircraft landed safely on runway 25C about 40 minutes later.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 90 minutes, then was able to continue and reached Toronto with a delay of 90 minutes.

The dog owner reported he saw ground staff and the captain play a bit with his dog, a French bulldog named Simba, on the ground in Frankfurt. He and his dog boarded another flight from Frankfurt to carry on to Toronto.
