A Westjet Encore de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-FIWE performing flight WS-3207 from Edmonton,AB to Calgary,AB (Canada), was on approach to Calgary's runway 35L being vectored to intercept the localizer and descending through 6400 feet MSL for 5300 feet, when the crew observed that no valid localizer and glideslope indications were being received and decided to go around. Air Traffic Control cleared the flight to climb to 6500 feet but observed the aircraft climbing rapidly through 7000 feet and reaching 7800 feet before being advised of their cleared altitude and returning to the cleared altitude. The aircraft positioned for a RNAV approach to runway 35R and landed safely.

The Canadian TSB reported that a loss of separation with another Westjet Encore de Havilland Dash 8-400 cleared to 8000 feet MSL occurred, when the aircraft climbed above 7000 feet, the separation eroded to 800 feet vertical and 2.8nm. Maintenance examined the occurrence aircraft and found that two connectors at the VOR/LOC coupler and left hand antenna were not fully seated.
