An Expressjet Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N903EV performing flight EV-2693/AA-2693 from Lexington,KY to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 18 passengers and 3 crew, was climbing out of Lexington Blue Grass Airport's runway 22 when the crew radioed "we have a problem" and requested to level off at 10,000 feet while running a checklist and preparing for a return to Lexington. The aircraft entered a hold at 10,000 feet, the crew declared emergency due to their landing gear. The crew advised that they were now limited to 200 KIAS or less, subsequently explaining that upon departure one of their landing gear struts "did not want to come up" and they had to leave it down. Emergency services assumed their stand by positions. On downwind to runway 22 the crew advised it would be a full stop landing on the runway, nose wheel steering would not be available. The aircraft landed safely back on runway 22 about 25 minutes after departure, stopped on the runway and was towed to the apron.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were provided with accommodation and rebooked onto flights the following day.
