A Dragonair Airbus A330-300, registration B-HLB performing flight KA-663 from Fuzhou to Hong Kong (China) with 259 passengers and 14 crew, was climbing out of Fuzhou when the crew stopped the climb at 7800 meters reporting a burning odour on board and decided to divert to Xiamen (China), where the aircraft landed safely on runway 05 about 20 minutes later. Attending emergency services found no trace of fire, heat or smoke. The passengers disembarked via stairs.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Xiamen for 15 hours, then continued the flight as KA-663D and reached Hong Kong with a delay of 16 hours.

The airline reported the crew diverted as a precaution due to a suspected defect in the air conditiong systems. The passengers were provided with accommodation over night.
