A Qantas Airbus A380-800, registration VH-OQD performing flight QF-2 (dep Aug 30th) from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Sydney,NS (Australia), had been delayed in Dubai for about 3:15 hours due to maintenance work. The aircraft subsequently departed as flight QF-2D and was enroute at FL370 over the Indian Ocean when the crew set course towards Perth,WA (Australia) due to problems with fuel pumps in one tank. The aircraft safely landed safely on Perth's runway 21 about 10 hours after departure from Dubai.

A passenger reported the crew announced they were departing Dubai with one fuel pump in one tank inoperative, the other pump in that tank failed in flight leaving the fuel in that tank unusable.

The airline confirmed a technical issue with the aircraft. A replacement flight and cabin crew was flown to Perth to operate the continuation to Sydney.

The flight status at the airline's website indicates that flight QF-2D departed Perth in the meantime at 17:12L (09:12Z) with an estimated arrival at 22:15L, VH-OQD is transponding flight QF-2 at the ground in Perth and has been moving, but is still on the ground in Perth at 19:49L. The aircraft needed to return to the gate, the flight status on the website for the continuation later changed to cancelled.

VH-OQD was able to depart Perth on Sep 1st 2015 at 12:08L as flight QF-6002 and is estimated to reach Sydney at 17:15L with a delay of 36 hours.
