A Hainan Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration B-6133 performing flight HU-7908 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Xian (China) with 193 passengers, was climbing out of Paris when the crew stopped the climb at about FL145 due to the failure of the left hand engine (Trent 772). The crew shut the engine down and returned to Paris for a safe landing about one hour after departure.

A passenger reported there was a loud bang from the left hand engine, the crew stopped the climb shortly afterwards and announced the left hand engine was secured and they were returning to Paris.
