A Delta Airlines Boeing 747-400, registration N665US performing flight DL-173 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Tokyo Narita (Japan), was enroute at FL300 about 190nm north of Toronto,ON (Canada) when the crew received an unsafe door indication and decided to divert to Detroit dumping fuel on the way to Detroit. The aircraft landed safely on Detroit's runway 21R about 80 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N863DA reached Tokyo as flight DL-9924 with a delay of 24 hours.
