A Helvetic Embraer ERJ-190 on behalf of Swiss, registration HB-JVR performing flight LX-454 from Zurich (Switzerland) to London City,EN (UK), was enroute at FL360 about 60nm northeast of Paris (France) when the crew decided to return to Zurich reporting a problem with the air conditioning. The aircraft descended to FL300 for the way back and landed safely in Zurich about 50 minutes later using routine communication only.

A passenger reported that while not fully understanding the captain's announcement the captain announced there had been a leak affecting the air conditioning, there was also mention of an engine (CF34). It became extremely hot in the cabin during the return to Zurich and the sound levels decreased significantly leading the passenger to believe an engine may have been shut down.
