An Ural Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration VP-BQY performing flight U6-2956 from Khudjand (Tajikistan) to Ekaterinburg (Russia) with 163 passengers and 7 crew, was enroute near Karaganda (Kazakhstan) when the crew initiated an emergency descent due to the failure of the air conditioning systems and resulting loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft diverted to Karaganda for a safe landing.

The incident aircraft continued the flight cruising at FL100 for the remainder of the route and reached Ekaterinburg the following early morning with a delay of 21 hours.
